Ode to Ange

Here is an excerpt of a masterpiece my friend Ange and I made back in 2005. It’s a ym conversation turned into a dramatic script. It’s about two lovers who are experiencing problems with their long distance relationship. This was made during the time Ange was in the US for the summer while I was here in Manila. We couldn’t help but goof around even if we were miles apart.

I play the role of Brian and Ange plays the role of Grace. This entire thing is PURE improvisation and guys, this is fiction. Don’t get any ideas okay? Its a long read. Enjoy.

Nica : Grace, you there?
Nica : Why are u awake pa? Isn’t it almost 5 in the morning there?
angecouture: because...
Nica : dont talk na
angecouture: why not? I miss u
Nica : i miss u too
angecouture: brian, do you love me?
Nica : i love you grace
angecouture: ur so sweet naman
Nica : grace, sleep na
angecouture: no i dont want to. can we just talk? please? this is our only time together. i told you it was going to be hard to maintain a long distance relationship
angecouture: if only you went nalang to college here

angecouture: what nanaman?
Nica : we've already discussed this. dont go there. im also tired
angecouture: i know but parang your not cooperating. I mean, we hardly ever speak anymore
Nica : i try my very best to keep in touch with u
angecouture: what kind of a relationship is that?
Nica : but what is it with you?
angecouture: YOU TRY YOUR VERY BEST?
angecouture: your best being like 10 minutes a day?!
Nica : WELL IF YOU JUST STOP CHANGING YOUR EMAIL THEN MAYBE U'LL GET ALL MY MESSAGES!!!!!!!!!!!!
angecouture: hello, im still up and its 5 am just so i can at least communicate with you
angecouture: changing my email? what is that supposed to mean
Nica : im sorry. im tired. didnt i just tell u that?
angecouture: yes you did
angecouture: so am i
Nica : SO WHY DONT U SLEEP THEN?
angecouture: are you sure you're not going around picking up other girls there ha

Nica : THATS BECAUSE YOUR NEVER THERE TO ANSWER MY EMAILS!

angecouture: i sacrificed my midterms to reply to that damn email of yours about your dog getting sick
angecouture: so DO NOT COMPLAIN ABOUT ME NOT REPLYING. dont you know how hard this is? NYU is NOTHING compared to Ateneo. you guys have it easier there. your dad has mang manuel drive you to school everyday
Nica : are u saying that my education is not worthy of your praise? is that it?
angecouture: laundry, cleaning up the apartment
Nica : that NYU is much better?
angecouture: I didnt say that. I just said that you have it easier there
Nica : is that why u kept on persuading me to go to NYU with you because you think Ateneo is NOTHING?
angecouture: I never said that. youre making up things again
Nica : IT DOESNT MATTER IF U SAID IT OR NOT!
angecouture: go ahead and assume all you want. IM JUST TRYING TO SAY THAT BACK HOME, YOU HAVE AN EASIER TIME GOING ABOUT COLLEGE.
Nica : who here has been trying to hit it with that bartender?
Nica : who? tell me who?
angecouture: i wasnt hitting on him, i had a drop of martini on my top. so he just wiped it off. nothing more
angecouture: DO YOU EVEN KNOW HOW HARD IT IS TO BALANCE EVERYTHING?
Nica : so is this all about balancing? ganun ba?!
angecouture: brian lopez..listen to me, youre going to be a father
Nica : i am not
angecouture: ive never slept with anyone else. LISTEN ALRIGHT. im trying to break the news to you
Nica : IM BRAKING UP WITH U.
angecouture: you're doing what?
Nica : SPENDING 3 YEARS WITH U WAS USELESS
angecouture: no, NOT AFTER ALL THIS. FINE THEN. but this kid is yours no matter what
angecouture: if you dont, ill raise it alone but DONT YOU COME CRAWLING BACK ASKING FOR A PART IN HIS OR HER LIFE

angecouture: YOU THINK I DID? i didnt want this!!!!! I SWEAR, IF YOU TURN UR BACK ON THIS KIDS LIFE, ULL BE DAMNED FOREVER AND I WILL MAKE SURE OF IT. this kid is yours NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO

angecouture: i hate you Brian
angecouture: you know what i thought? i thought i was going to finish college and then go back there and start a life with you but life did not ask me what i thought or what i wanted
Nica : grace. let me talk. ang dami mong daldal eh.
angecouture: go ahead and try to redeem yourself
Nica : grace, I love you. but as u can see we obviously cant work things out. I would try my damn to email u... and I do email u, but u never get them. You always blame everything on me. I also dont know wat it is with u. palagi ka na lang hindi nagpapakita.
angecouture: that your life in luxury will forever change all because of ONE NIGHT?
Nica : I already prepared the adoption papers. whats your fax?
angecouture: I AM NOT GIVING AWAY THIS CHILD
angecouture: over my dead body brian!!!!!
angecouture: fine ill raise it alone, ill drop out and work 3 jobs. i do not care unlike you of course, its so hard to let go off your pampered life
angecouture: living on mommy and daddys walle and not learning how to do anything. thats the brian ive always known. wala ka ng alam sa tunay na mundo
Nica : im migrating to england this summer
angecouture: ang sama mo talaga brian. WALA KANG KONSENSYA. hindi ka marunong magisip ng ibang tao. PURO IKAW NALANG. IKAW IKAW IKAW
Nica : say what you want.
angecouture: noong nagkatransplant yung daddy mo, ano ang ginawa mo? nagpunta sa singapore!
Nica : may free ticket eh! sayang! what did you expect me to do?
angecouture: HINDI KA MARUNONG MAGMAHAL
Nica : totoo. pero minahal kita grace. but u ignored my love for you
angecouture: you swept me off my feet with your charm and I am not going back in your arms
Nica : NOW GO TO SLEEP!
angecouture: I ignored your love?
Nica : yes u ignored it
angecouture: ako pa talaga ha
Nica : i took you out on dates on my yacht, on my pent house
angecouture: in other words, YOU BOUGHT ME
Nica : to tagaytay, subic, palawan, sorsogon, singapore and australia
angecouture: i was stupid enough to think that you really loved me
Nica : ALL U DID WAS SPEND MY MONEY.
angecouture: wala akong interes sa pera mo brian! kahit minsan, hindi ko pinansin ang mga kotse mo
Nica : a talaga? edi bakit...
angecouture: brian i dont want to talk about this
Nica : palagi kang humihingi ng pera saakin?
angecouture: brian, i only asked for money once okay?
Nica: lets not go there anymore. Grace, i have to go.
Brian signs off
angecouture: brian...brian!!! where the hell are you? BRIAN? Iniwanan mo nanaman ako!

I hope that wasn't too dramatic. Haha.
